3 CUPS OF KOPI

3 Cups of Kopi Playback Theatre Ensemble (3 Cups) was formed by a bunch of enthusiasts.

We were graduates of Tapestry Playback Theatre's Core Training in late 2016.

Amongst us were office workers, educators, undergraduates, arts freelancers, parents and business owners.

We have been meeting fairly regularly in Singapore, to hold space for anyone who has a story to share.

We are a community arts group that hopes the playing back of emotions can allow for bonding, healing, reflection and inspiration.

Between 2017-2018, we hit milestones such as our first performance, first retreat and first playback jam.

In 2020, some of us co-organised the 1st Singapore Playback Theatre Gathering with

mentors and friends from Tapestry Playback Theatre, Long Time No See Playback Theatre and Her Playback.

We were the first playback group in Singapore that continued to meet online

and perform virtually throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

It gave us the opportunity to experiment with and improve on our online presentations techniques,

reach out to new local and international audience groups,

as well as engage with potential new members.

We then continued to experiment with a hybrid style of performance (Zoom + InRealLife). #ZoomBack focused on

exploring and combining technical, technological, physical and virtual possibilities.

In early 2022, we offered KOPI STORIES. a crash course of playback essentials to grow interest in Singapore.

In late 2023, KOPI KAKIS, comprising friends from Long Time No See, iMi and 3 Cups, presented

"History As We Know It" in Singapore and in South Africa.

We witnessed beautiful and important stories revolving around identity, family, home, migration and geopolitical issues.

In 2024/25, we are excited to continue partnerships with St Luke's Eldercare and the Singapore Drama Educators Association,

and to deepen our craft via targeted training and performances. We look forward to meeting and sharing moments with practitioners

and non-practitioners from all walks of life.
